The Bible is filled with partings. People who part ways because of unresolved conflicts between them and people who part ways because God called one or the other to another place for another time. In Genesis, we see the destructive relationship between Jacob and Laban. Both had cheated each other, and it would seem that because of their actions, they would never be able to be at peace. In the 31st chapter, Laban and Jacob make a covenant of peace. The seal on this covenant includes these words: “May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.”
I am overjoyed to say that you (GUP) and I have not had a relationship identified by cheating and thievery. Whew! But still, the sentiment of the covenant rings true. I will continue to pray that our God keeps watch between us. I am confident God will!
