Traveling with the Lord

While researching a new sermon series, I encountered one with a travel theme. This theme is appropriate as we enter the months following the end of school because so many take this opportunity to travel. Travel planning brings with it joy, excitement, and anxiety. What to bring? How much to bring? Will the weather cooperate? Solomon knew a lot about planning. After all, he planned the temple's building with God's help. In Proverbs 16:9, he says, "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." The Hebrew word, yakin, translated as "establishes," means more fully that God makes it permanent. The Hebrew word tsaad, translated as "steps," means not just steps but the pace of those steps. I love this! The Holy Spirit helps us to make plans that are pleasing to God and, therefore, are in God's will. God takes our human plans and makes them permanent by guiding our steps and the speed of those steps. My friends, make plans knowing that the God we serve is there to help and to guide. Traveling mercies, and may your plans be established by the who loves us all.
