"Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all the people, and plants of the field to everyone." Zech. 10:1-2
Like every other weather-related day, it is funny how rainy days produce varying emotions. Remember the song, "Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down." There is also the lighthearted "Singin' in the Rain." One of my favorites as a young Christian, sung by B.J. Thomas was "Raindrops Keep Fallin on My Head." The lyrics to the song's bridge are "But there's one thing I know. The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me. It won't be long 'till happiness steps up to greet me." This song and the verse penned by the prophet Zechariah remind us that there is a way to bring the "Sonshine" into a dreary, rainy day. We are reminded that God is the one who gives us the rain for the people and the rest of creation as well. It may sound a little pollyannish to look for the silver lining. We have data from scholars and medical professionals identifying positive, gratitude-filled attitudes as one way to bring health to your bodies, minds, and souls. Let's cultivate some life. Celebrate the rainy days of Spring.
